We are very sad to share that Cisco, our 23-year-old Andean bear, died this morning during an emergency veterinary procedure. Cisco had been having difficulty breathing, and a chest ultrasound revealed large amounts of liquid in his lungs and abnormal soft-tissue masses in his chest cavity. Veterinarians performed an emergency thoracentesis to remove fluid from his chest to help improve his breathing. He developed cardiopulmonary arrest, and due to his grave prognosis, the team made the decision not to resuscitate him and let him pass humanely pain-free and quietly.
