FT: Villa 1-0 Fulham - Jonathan Kodjia claimed his fourth goal of the season to give Villa three vital points as they followed up their midweek win at Reading with a hard-earned victory over Fulham. The predatory striker drilled home a right-foot volley 10 minutes from the end after sub Albert Adomah had collected keeper David Button’s poor clearance and crossed invitingly from the right. Steve Bruce’s men had struggled for long periods of the second half but really came alive in the closing stages. Jordan Ayew was only just off target immediately after the goal after being released by Ross McCormack, and in stoppage time Kodjia made a twisting run before his shot was pushed away by Button, Adomah heading just wide from the rebound. Villa had been well on top in the opening period, with James Chester and Leandro Bacuna heading wide and Kodjia and Ayew forcing Button into fine saves. Ayew was also denied by the keeper when his curling 65th-minute free-kick was tipped over at full stretch. Pierluigi Gollini, by contrast, was barely troubled, although he saved well from Sone Aluko on the stroke of half-time. In the 27th minute Ayew almost opened the scoring with a shot which almost caught Button off guard. Accepting a short pass from Rudy Gestede, Ayew initially hesitated but then burst forward to unleash a low, skidding 25-yard drive which the keeper gathered at the second attempt. #AVLFUL. #AVFC #AstonVilla #AstonVillaFC #AstonVillaFootballClub #Fulham #FulhamFC #FulhamFootballClub #Football #Championship #SkyBetChampionship
