Many of you have been asking for a Halo update so here you go: Halo is doing great and is back to her usual high energy Shiba Inu self. She was actually back to herself two days following the surgery. She has adjusted to having only one eye so well and her fur will soon grow in the rest of the way. This pic was just taken today. For those who don't know the story, Halo had a watery and squinty eye one morning and was taken to the vet the same day. That vet diagnosed her with conjunctivitis and we followed his treatment plan. After a week of not seeing significant improvement and Halo seeming to be in more pain, I took her for a 2nd opinion. She was diagnosed with glaucoma which progressed extremely quickly to the point of it now being an emergency. We then went to the emergency vet who confirmed the diagnosis. The eye was tested for vision and there was no response. Glaucoma had already blinded that eye and she was clearly in much more pain than even the day before. There was no saving the eye so we followed the ophthalmologists advice to remove the eye and relieve Halo of her pain. Surgery was done just hours later and it was so nice seeing her relaxed and not in pain anymore. She has recovered so nicely but we have to give her drops daily and watch the other eye because the biopsy came back that it was primary glaucoma. Shiba Inus are genetically predisposed to this and most often by the time you notice symptoms it's already BAD. If you have a dog please read up on glaucoma and what to watch for. I hope by sharing Halo's story it will save someone else's dog from going through this. Also, veterinarians, please please please do a pressure test when dogs present eye problems. She may have still lost the eye if the 1st vet caught it but we could've saved her a week of pain, suffering, and aggravation with us putting drops in her eyes 2x per day treating the wrong thing. You Shiba owners know exactly what I'm talking about. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and support. ?? #shibainu #shiba #doge #awareness
