Photo is from an AAHA (Standard of Excellence) veterinary hospital with @Avmavets who declaw cats with their $35,000 laser. They say there are no long term negative consequences from declawing, suggest declaws with neuter surgeries to first time cat owners, don't offer any behavior advice for scratching issues and cats, don't suggest scratching posts or Soft Paws when people ask for a declaw (they have a section on their website called "Behavioral Medicine" with a photo of a dog with a torn up pillow and say they help with behavior issues), they say their laser declaws aren't painful, and they say that their laser front declaw is $199.
In other countries, vetmed assoc. put accountability with things like this but AVMA, AAHA, (and AAFP) don't want to alienate their vets and lose membership$ by enforcing their "last resort" or "strongly opposed" declawing policies. So the question is WHY DO THESE VET ASSOC. EVEN HAVE THESE DECLAWING POSITIONS if they don't enforce them?

Pro-declaw vets and vet techs,be TRUE to your profession and just HEAL animals and stop this insanity. It's really sad that the majority of vets in America (79%) declaw around 2 million cats a year in the US and make up lame excuses like, "declawing keeps a cat in a home or saves human lives." If your vet declaws cats, respectfully ask them to stop. If they won't, then let them know you are taking your pets to an ethical vet, who you can trust, and is true to the noble profession of vetmed and who doesn't declaw cats.
