It's a participatory event. You go, you play along, you immerse yourself in the curiosity and the unknown. It's not a festival with a line up and a schedule and a plan, it's an attempt at a whole lot of people creating a counter culture to experience together, and then have stories to take back and share when it's over.

This year was the first year I knew people had cell phone service throughout the week. I think it's great that people could keep in touch with loved ones who aren't there, or stay connected with the important things at home - but I attended the festival for almost a decade without that connection. Times are changing, technology has boomed, but if I can still allow myself the one week out of the whole year to disconnect and unplug, then I think that's an extremely valuable experience to take advantage of. That separation is part of my experience. Have a good time, let yourself forget about social norms, experience something new and exciting. The internet will be there when you return, and most people who aren't out there in that dusty place with us don't really care anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
