The #history is #so #rich here ❤❤ **Cappadocian Greeks created elaborate underground cities in the volcanic formations of eastern Cappadocia and would take refuge in them during times of danger. Over the next millennium they would hide in these rocks and underground cities from many raiders: 9th century Arab invaders to the 11th century Turkish conquerors to the 15th century Mongols. As late as the 20th century the underground cities were still being used by the Cappadocian Greeks throughout periodic waves of Ottoman persecution!
