A boy and his bird at Coney Island, Brooklyn. “I really wanted to try to express this sort of love story with this bird,” said the photographer @markhartman, who took this photo one Sunday in mid-August. “I tried to hold the bird and it went right back to him.” Earlier that week, @markhartman had taken the train to Coney Island and started walking, camera in hand. Since then, he has walked the same route nearly every day: east along the boardwalk beyond @lunaparknyc, down to the water, along the shore, just beyond Steeplechase Pier and back to the boardwalk. And repeat. Sometimes it’s the eyes that pull him in; sometimes it’s a vibrant beach cover. “Connecting with people is the best way to get out of any kind of depression,” @markhartman said last weekend as he began his stroll.
