Six months ago I decided to pack up my two senior citizen housecats in an RV and show them how beautiful the outside world is. Jake is a 13 year old tuxedo cat who is fat and angry. He doesn't like to move a lot. He is my Al Bundy. Frank is 11 and was the runt of the litter and starved in a pet shop. He is blind and has severe asthma. He is very athletic and plays fetch and loves people and torments Jake when no one is looking. He is my Nermal. Today starts my first week off since the RV adventure that changed their little lives and mine. They went rock climbing, walked on the beach, woke up to the sounds of the ocean and wandered the forest. And they looked like healthy kittens. It was amazing. Today is the start of my first week off since February. There was no question what I was going to do with my time off. I packed them in my car and drove north into the redwoods and rented a cabin. This morning Jake and I sat under the trees and had coffee while he bird watched and Frank chased bugs (I have his leash in my right hand.. He is not pictured since the bug was on the move.) These trips have made me realize that the secret to youth and happiness is change and adventure. So shake it up. Grab your fat housecat, get in your car and drive.
