Michelle Terris (@mterrisphoto) is proof that you don’t always have to have everything figured out. “I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life for awhile,” the 28-year-old says. “I knew I wanted to do something creative, but wasn't sure what, so I signed up for some photography classes in college and have kept taking photos ever since.”
The Californian photog has been snapping ever since, finding inspiration in sources we can all relate to, with “Beyoncé (omg ‘Lemonade’!!), clothing from the past — mainly the 30's and 40's — and working with other women” topping her list lately. The latter is an especially important part of her creative process. “I've been so fortunate to meet some amazing ladies throughout my time taking photos that I love collaborating and coming up with ideas and photographing these great ladies that I meet,” Michelle says.
To Michelle, #GirlGaze is all about a long-overdue shift in the way we think about women. “I love that #GirlGaze is helping to promote this big change in our culture that who we are is beautiful: body hair, fat, stretch marks, and all. Women are beautiful, insightful, inspiring creatures that have been held back by the patriarchy for far too long and [it’s] exciting to feel and be a part of this change.” ?
