If you’ve ever come across a Vogue spread so fantastical that you had to rip it out and tape it to your bedroom wall (and you have), chances are it was styled by @therealgracecoddington Vogue’s creative director for more than 20 years, Grace has become one of the fashion world’s most recognizable icons—beloved for her feverish imagination, fire-red hair, and fondness for cats. Less known is her role as an extraordinary mentor. To hear her former assistants tell it, Grace isn’t so much a boss as she is an older sister, life compass, and brilliant collaborator rolled into one. Those lucky enough to land the job might find themselves watching a hot-air balloon land in a Mexican town or painting sheep on Madonna’s English estate.
