U.S. swimmer Katie Ledecky won her first Rio Olympics gold medal tonight, beating her own World Record in the 400-meter freestyle competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ledecky finished at 3:56:46, a full 4.77 seconds ahead of her competitors, and almost two seconds ahead of her previous record, established in 2014. To this day, the American swimmer remains the only woman to break the 3:59 barrier.
