Pictured here is Carmen Carrera (right), thirty-one, with her husband, Adrian Torres, and their daughters. “I wished I’d been born a girl, but that wasn’t my reality, so I thought I’m going to have to be a gay man. I started transitioning at twenty-five, when I was already successful in the drag-show realm. The gay person I thought I was started to feel like another character, and it was eating away at my soul.
