What’s in a name? Early Spanish explorers of North & South America called this #cat leon (lion) & gato monte (cat of the mountain), from which we get the name "mountain lion." Incas named it “puma” while “cougar” seems to derive from an old South American Indian word. And “panther” is a general term for cats that have solid-colored coats. All of these names are considered correct, but scientists usually use the name #puma. Here in #SoCal they’re commonly called mountain lions. #Caturday #ThatWhichWeCallARose #ACatNeedsAName #ACatHasNoName (?: Marcia Siggins Jonas)
