“When a spider tortoise egg suddenly cracked in our incubator, Reptile Discovery Center keeper Robin Saunders thought of a crafty solution. Spider tortoise eggs are brittle (like chicken eggs), but lizard eggs are leathery and pliable. Robin patched the tortoise egg with a piece of the lizard eggshell, and a tortoise hatched alive and well! Robin continues to be an unsung hero among our staff. She’s always putting the animals’ care first.” – Alan Peters, Reptile Discovery Center Curator #NZKW2016 #KeepersCare #WeSaveSpecies
