Another day of violence, sadness, frustration and outrage. I am anti-violence no matter who is doing it. I believe it is possible to be against the police killing of civilians and not be anti-police. And I also am TOTALLY against acts of vengeance against police in our country as violence cannot root out violence. In fact it puts backwards the movement to bring about positive change in the way communities are policed. At the same time people need to start seeing police held accountable in situations where excessive force is used, so that people feel heard. We are sitting on a powder keg right now that has the potential to blow up in every city in America if we don't all work together in this time to make long overdue change in our cities. We need changes in policy to make this happen and we need changes in the hearts and minds of all of our nation to heal the deep wounds that have led to where we are today. I believe we can do much better than where we are now, I believe that this time will be looked upon in the future as a time of great pain and upheaval but mostly change in the same way that we look back on the civil rights era and the positive steps we took in the decades following. I have a brother who is a police officer and I also live in Hunters Point in San Francisco which is a community where we have heavy police presence and have had many unarmed civilians killed by police. I believe it's possible for us to hold our hearts open for all, and realize that violence and hatred are the real enemy...not each other. Let's be the change!!! #peace #change #justice #reform #love #iamthechange #powertothepeaceful
