"B10 Space Modulator" (1942) from our collection, is one of the group of works #MoholyNagy painted on shaped Plexiglas. Moholy exploited the thermoplasticity of Plexiglas by introducing deliberate distortions by heating the plastic sheets, sometimes in his kitchen oven, and would shape them by hand. Moholy suspended the translucent plastic in front of a backing board, and when light passes through the painted plastic, layers of beautiful shadows are cast on the backing board, which he referred to as a projection screen.
