“It’s as true today as it ever was: he who seeks beauty shall find it.”—#BillCunningham (1929–2016). In 1968, celebrated photographer Bill Cunningham began an eight year project that combined the architectural riches and fashion history of New York City. His photographic essay paired models in period costumes with historic settings during a time when the city’s urban landscape was in turmoil. “Bill Cunningham: Facades,” which featured this photograph of Editta Sherman posed in front of the Guggenheim, was on view in 2014 at @nyhistory.
