Part 3 of 3 of artist, filmmaker and curator @zswstudio's pineapple themed takeover, ahead of The Pineapple Show @tiwani_contemporary. "This is an image taken from Parasol, the video that performance artist @ayana.m.evans and I made for show. It's a triptych that features gloved hands exploring and harming themselves on a pineapple crown on either side, and then the middle channel features Ayana. She is dressed in her infamous catsuit and stands on a crochet pineapple doily, performing sexy poses awkwardly for the camera and being – for all intents and purposes – the embodiment of the pineapple as Exotic Other. It's a commentary on black women's bodies as bodies for labour or fetishised outsider bodies for ogling. The counter current of gentility, propriety and obedience is also expressed through the gloved hand. The masochistic, self-harming element is an important narrative in the piece. I found it hard to film her making herself bleed but in many ways this is her comfort zone. If things are too easy, she is not satisfied." #anothertakeover
