Latvia celebrated a maiden win in the competition and their first-ever in a global youth women's competition as they came from behind to beat Korea 78-71. It was thanks mainly to a phenomenal effort from Sabine Lipe who had 24 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists.

Having beaten Brazil in the Group Phase and coming close to landing a berth in the Quarter-Finals, Mali opened up the Classification 9-16 with a vibrant 73-51 victory against Mexico as Aissetou Coulibaly hit six three-pointers on her way to 23 points. That meant they became the first-ever African nation to record at least two wins at a #FIBAU17 Women's World Championship.

Japan kept their hopes of a ninth-place finish alive after strolling to a big win against Brazil 83-60.
