This is my brave, beautiful sister, Parker, who those that have known me in my real life may know to be my troubled, trouble-making little brother, Parker. Like many of us, myself included, Parker had a life long struggle with belonging and self worth. In addition, Parker struggled with identity and sexuality, which made it even harder to find her self-worth and where she belongs. Thus, turning to a long battle with drug addiction & really bad life choices, until she made the brave decision to come out as a woman, bury her drug addiction & leave the adult entertainment world in the rearview forever.
For eighteen challenging, emotional years, I watched Parker struggle, abuse herself and hurt those around her, most often me. Even when she stopped believing in herself, or believing that she was deserving of having a beautiful, joy-filled life, even when she hurt me, I believed in her. I knew the “why” behind many of the bad choices, and I knew that no matter what destructive path Parker was on, I was going to fight for her and always show her the unconditional love I knew she deserved, in the hopes that one day she would believe in herself too.
My journey with Parker taught me a lot about life, my views on sexuality, on the disease of addiction, the true meaning of family, fighting for what you believe in & never, ever giving up. It taught me to never judge a book by it’s cover, and to never disregard a single person, because inside each of us is a beautiful light that may just need a little help finding the crack that can tear down the sometimes ugly barrier some of us needed to build.
I can’t say this enough, but Parker, I am proud of you. I am so proud of the WOMAN you have become. Everyday it my absolute joy and pleasure to watch you grow and become more confident and happy. Few have struggled like you, and even fewer make it out alive & free. You are an inspiration to anyone who struggles with who they are and what they can become. You are an inspiration to anyone caught up in addiction. You are an inspiration to me.
