#tbt of a feral, yes feral kitty who was TNR'd. What is TNR? It stands for "trap, neuter, return". Strays and ferals are all over. This kitten was born into a stray colony at a county park that was threatening to have animal control remove them (where they'd most likely be euthanized as they were very skittish and not friendly at all). This is one example of why TNR is extremely important. This litter would eventually mature to breeding age and then just like that, more litters of newborns.....and the cycle keeps repeating. Then, what was a few strays becomes a "complete nuisance" of 20-30 strays to someone who will ask that the whole colony be trapped and removed (most likely euthanized especially if not socialized). All shelters, private rescues, and sanctuaries are full (at least here they are) so there is nowhere for them to go. But.....By keeping them from reproducing we are helping the severe overpopulation issues and in turn, assisting shelters in their efforts to become no-kill shelters. We can also keep existing colonies safe by making sure they don't grow any larger by sterilizing the colony. In our county it is now ILLEGAL for animal control to trap and remove a cat who has been TNR'd which they will be able to recognize via an ear notch visible from a distance. They are free to live out their lives in their colonies. We hope more counties in South Florida and across the United States will follow suit. If you have some spare time and want to help, please contact your nearest rescue or shelter and they will explain what to do and where to take them for low cost spay/neuter. It's really very self rewarding knowing that you're making a big difference. After 10+ hours of trapping over the past couple days, one of which was a severely injured kitten, I felt this was important to share. It seems the overpopulation is more out of control now than ever before! Please help if you can. These kittens didn't choose to be born without a home and they need our help. A little effort goes a long way with TNR! Thanks everyone and have a great night! ?? #adoptdontshop #spayandneuter #tnr
