Amphibian chytrid is the Big Bad for many species of frogs, some species—and even some individuals—are resistant to the fungal disease. SCBI geneticists are trying to identify the differences in the immune system genes between frogs that die and those that survive. If the researchers can crack the code, they might be able to return individuals with “good genes” into the wild or breed for those genes in populations under human care.
