“Dancing again is making me a better mother and me being a mother is making me a better dancer.” @constancestamatiou danced with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for 5 years before leaving to start a family. Now 31 with 2 young children, she couldn’t get dancing out of her system. This week, @constancestamatiou — one of 3 company members Alvin Ailey is welcoming to its mix this season — is performing in a featured role in Ailey’s 1960 masterpiece, “Revelations,” among other works. Her return is particularly gratifying for Robert Battle, the company’s artistic director. “It’s fun to have her back, but it’s also a statement — that you can follow your own sense of necessity,” he told @ニューヨーク・タイムズ recently. “There doesn’t have to be one way to do things.” @sbrackbill photographed @constancestamatiou in an Alvin Ailey studio.
