Part 2 of 3: Tropicália (1966-1967) by late Brazilian visual artist Hélio Oiticica. This was Oiticica’s first immersive installation and the inclusion of favela architecture and two live macaws (just out of shot!) symbolise the avant-garde artist’s desire to combine art and lived experience. “Since we opened the @テート・ギャラリー Modern, the world has changed and the story of art has changed. The established view of art history is no longer all encompassing,” explains director of Tate Modern, Frances Morris. “When we opened [the museum], with a collection that was bound by western Europe and North America and art made in Britain, we knew that had to change. Truly great art was then, and is now, made all over the world. And I’m delighted that this broader story is reflected in the new displays in the The Switch House, our new galleries, and The Boiler House, our refurbished galleries.
