In this image released May 18 by the European Southern Observatory and captured by its Very Large Telescope, light from blazing blue stars "energizes" the gas left over from their recent formation. The result, according to ESO, creates a colorful emission nebula called LHA 120-N55. The displays are used by astronomers to learn about how new stars develop.
