(2/6) A longtime Toyota aficionado, Raymond trained with Toyota’s Technician Training & Education Network (T-TEN) with the intent of teaching industrial technology. While he ultimately went on to earn a PhD in human factors psychology and began teaching psychology and statistics, Raymond’s goal has always been to return to automotive education. “It’s hugely rewarding” to teach technical courses, he says, “because if you think about it, you’re teaching [students] how to make a living. Once you learn the skill, tomorrow you can apply it and use it to feed yourself.” One of his most rewarding experiences is teaching struggling students who are in danger of being left behind. “Maybe because of socioeconomic status, they had to work for a living and didn’t have time to study for class. Those are the students I want to push for and say, ‘Hey, [I’m] an instructor who’s here to help you through this. You might not become a lawyer or doctor, but now you're able to take care of yourself and finish that AA degree or BA degree.
