While backpacking all 210 miles of the John Muir Trail with my parents I noticed my mom going up and down each step with the same foot forward. I asked her what was wrong and she reminded me that because of her double knee replacement she couldn’t bend her bad knee enough to go up the big steps. I thought I was in pretty good shape yet I was struggling with the 46,000 feet of elevation gain throughout the trail… and here my mom was basically using one leg to go up and down each step.
Just a few years earlier my parents hiked for over 5 months on the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. My mom would say “I’m not the fastest hiker, but I will NEVER give up”.
My mom has taught me a ton, this story is just one of the many reasons she is the coolest person I know! #happymothersday
