While Earth’s shadow covered the moon, light passed through our atmosphere with only red and orange wavelengths able to reach the moon's surface. The reddish color is why it’s sometimes called a Blood Moon. From a photography perspective, this was way harder to capture than I envisioned. There is such an extreme exposure difference from the fully illuminated moon, to the fully eclipsed moon, that it made bringing all of these different phases together quite challenging. This is why I love photography though! Instead of sitting at home in the rain, I was inspired to head out into nature and push myself mentally and physically while also experiencing a beautiful and somewhat rare astronomical event.
