#OnThisDay in 2006, Tele Santana died at the age of 74. One of Brazil’s greatest coaches, he guided a national team that included stars such as Zico, Socrates, Falcao, Junior and Eder through the FIFA World Cup in 1982 and 1986. Santana encouraged the attacking, flamboyant form of football for which Brazil is famed – though neither side he coached went on to lift the World Cup. In the 1990s, he guided Sao Paulo to championship glory and to two successive wins in the Copa Libertadores.
