our old magnolia tree is still laden with tightly closed buds - potential unrealized because of an unexpected snowfall - one seemingly traded for the other - I cut a few branches and brought them inside to the shelter of the house but still the blossoms refused to open - looking at them this morning - disappointed that they had not opened as I expected - they were beautiful all the same in their stark darkness against early light of day
