Every once in a while we all need to put everything on pause and be grateful for the special people in our lives. This is one of those times. I’m Humbled to have the smartest swimming minds anywhere in my corner. Thanks to Emil, Tina and John from West Kelowna. Thanks to John, Brian, Josee, Ken, Brian, Iain and Lindsay from Swim Canada. You guys have been so helpful by knowing when to leave me alone and when to be in my face. Mark and Mike from Swim BC have been there for about 10 years and I’m sorry for never taking a moment to say thanks for all the support. Last week was only a checkpoint and we’re not celebrating anything yet. The 200 breast in Rio is wide open and there for the taking if I’m perfect between then and now. I know we’ll all throw the kitchen sink into getting on to that podium. Thanks to my family and friends for coming from Vancouver/Halifax/Minneapolis last week. I know these things are expensive and swim meets can go on and on but it REALLY meant a lot having so many people with me who have been in my corner through all the highs and lows over the years. Even longer than the Swim BC guys. Finally, I don’t know how to put into words how thankful I am to the University of Minnesota. The time, effort, money and resources you’ve invested in me over the past four years is humbling. Thanks for letting me be me and letting me be a part of this special group of driven, highly motivated, goal oriented men and women who are Gopher Swimming and Diving. Big thanks to Kelly Kremer, Terry Ganley, Ryan Purdy and Tyler Gerst and all the coaches who’ve taught me how to have great big stupid impossible ridiculous dreams that are ok to shout out loud then spend the rest of the day inching closer to them. I don’t know how I’m going to repay you. I don’t know where I’d be without you. If I could, I’d climb under the rope after graduation and sign up again as a freshman. I love you all. Kierra Smith
