How and where to shower ranks near the top of the list of challenges that residents of Flint, Michigan face every day. Despite assurances from government scientists, who say they haven’t found any evidence that the city’s lead-tainted water is unsafe for bathing, reports of rashes, itchiness and hair loss are widespread. Many residents are convinced that showering in the water is harmful. Some have taken to bathing infrequently, dashing into and out of the shower once a week with their mouths tightly shut. Others wash only with baby wipes — or, if they can, at the homes of friends or relatives outside Flint. The complaints are so persistent and anxiety so high that the @cdcgov and the @epagov have started working with the state to investigate whether the water quality has been contributing to skin problems. While on assignment in Flint last week, @brittanygreeson took this photo of Adam Murphy bathing his newborn son, Declan, using bottled water.
