With a food to flesh conversion ratio of approximately one-to-one, salmon farms are perhaps the most efficient way to meet the rapidly increasing demand for protein. This salmon farm in Norway raises 200,000 atlantic salmon in each pen, which are fed a mixture of fish meal, fish oil, and a blend of grains via a pneumatic tube connected to the feeding barge seen in the lower right corner. The filleting plant nearby processes 100,000 5kg fish per day for Marine Harvest, which has 25% of the global farmed salmon market.
