Our Learning Through Art (LTA) program brings teaching artists into the classroom of NYC's schools to help develop art projects for students and facilitate educational visits to the Guggenheim. For Gianna and James, two students who attend public school in Queens, these visits in 2015 were their first to any art museum. “At first, I can’t lie, I thought it was boring,” recalled James. “But then I . . . explored many things, and one day I started drawing the pictures and it came to my mind I could draw them. First, I thought I couldn’t draw, I wasn’t good at it, and then I saw that I could do it.” Gianna shared some of her own initial struggles when she created her final LTA project—a painting of a silhouetted tree against an indigo night sky with one white streak of a shooting star. “The tree got messed up, and I got upset and I thought it wouldn’t look good. So I was having doubts. Then I finally did it and I was like, ‘Wow.'” Gianna and James's work was displayed at the Guggenheim during "A Year with Children 2015." #FutureMW #MuseumWeek
