It is true what they say: life begins at the end of your comfort zone. I left Sweden when I was 19. I didn't have any money, no plan, nothing to fall back on. All I knew was that I needed a change in my life. I needed to explore! I ended up in Costa Rica where I was so out of my comfort zone I was forced to embrace a whole new way of living. I bartended for a year, making $1 an hour. I was so poor I woke up some mornings and had to decide; who eats breakfast, me or my dog? (Quila, my dog, always won)? Water poured from the street into my house every time it rained. I didn't have a phone. Every day I found a new animal or insect on my kitchen counter; scorpions, frogs, the skin of a giant snake (yes - that happened). I had no way of leaving the country, no idea what the next month would be like, and... I was the happiest I'd ever been. For me, the act of getting out into the world and trying something new was the beginning of a whole new life! I needed to learn that I was capable of being alone, of living on my own, of trusting in the magic of the universe. None of this would have come my way if I hadn't left my comfortable, sheltered life back home. Trying new things, even if they're scary at first, is the ONLY way to figure out who you really are! We need to get lost to find ourselves. Take a deep breath and try something new. Go to breathingchangeseverything.com to share your own moment! For every #dontforgettobreathe tag @lovephilosophy will donate $1 to the hope&grace initiative for mental health and wellbeing. I'm so grateful to be a part of such a beautiful initiative. #thankyou
