Sometimes the unfettered wisdom of children far exceeds our limited adult educated intellect. My son made this drawing unprompted after hearing about factories releasing toxic chemicals. I'm not sure how far our local news is going out into the world, but there is quite the uproar about air quality here in Portland right now. There is an art glass factory near our house that has been knowingly been spewing arsenic and cadmium for decades. While I am very concerned for the health of my family and our community it is nowhere near the pollution we are all contributing to in other communities around the world via our consumer culture. I am hoping that cases like this bring an awareness to what we are doing to our brothers and sisters around the globe. Just because we don't live in these places and we don't own these companies, we are not guilt free from contributing to this mess.
