I’m very happy to share with you all that my portfolio on orangutans called “Tough Times for Orangutans” was awarded first prize in the World Press Photo Awards – Nature Story category. This is a culmination of many years of collaboration with my wife, orangutan researcher Cheryl Knott, going back to our first @ナショナルジオグラフィック magazine story together in 1998. I’m especially happy if the press around this award can bring more attention to orangutan conservation issues. Here I share a favorite photo from my 1998 story that required climbing a tree to get – a large male orangutan settling into his nest for the night at Gunung Palung.
