18 years ago, I met the woman who'd make me a family. While running errands with the wife yesterday, Jen and I realized that Feb 19th was the day we first met nearly two decades back, when Jennifer interviewed me for @usatoday at the old Bel Age Hotel (off #sunsetblvd in #losangeles). Since then, the Bel Age closed and @thelondonweho took over the property. So the wife and I decided to mark the suddenly-remembered anniversary of our first laying eyes on one another to grab an impromptu lunch at the hotel restaurant yesterday afternoon. When we met at this location 18 years ago, it was all very chaste and professional; but there we were, in the same exact geographical place we met at the same exact time, 18 years after the fact. You could practically feel the power of the planet's Ley lines in the hotel lobby. And even though our house is only 5 minutes away, I said "Let's turn these Ley lines into Lay lines!" So we got a room and did what we didn't get to do that day we met for the newspaper interview at this same location years ago: we fucked each other's brains out! Happy Anniversary of the Day We Met, Jenny! You changed my life 18 years ago when I opened my hotel door and saw the most beautiful woman I'd ever met standing there, tape recorder in hand.
