36 hours ago, the whole family went to @Saturday Night Live as guests of @yogahosers alum @thesheertruth. It was fun to see the show (and sets) unfold in real time and hard to avoid lapsing into watching the sketches on the TV monitors, even though the cast was only a few feet away. After the show, #Sasheer was kind enough to tour us through the legendary #studio8h. It was a bit poignant for me because all through my teens and early twenties, I dreamed of being an #SNL writer. I had watched the first episode live on TV when I was 5 and even once chose to go to school in #NYC just so I could hit 30 Rock every day in hopes of being discovered simply by sitting in the lobby of the and waiting for a chance encounter with SNL creator Lorne Michaels. Granted, it wasn't a great plan; but way before #Clerks would ever take over my life, SNL was the only place I thought my fat calves might fit in the entertainment business. Everything worked out for me career wise so no complaints at all. But still - the old school fan in me wouldn't take a pic on the stage as we toured. I wanted to, but I wanted something more. "You're only 45," I said to myself. "There's still time to actually earn being on that stage one day." Mind you, I happily snapped the kid's pic on the stage: she's a huge fan, as you can see by her expression. But superstitious respect for sacred institutions must run in the blood - because the kid posted this same pic on her Instagram and wrote "I hope to one day return to this stage for real." Me too, Kiddo. s'Weird to have the same dream as your 16 year old daughter, I know.
