#TBT—After leaving her 13-year post as the Guggenheim’s first director, Hilla Rebay made her home at her Connecticut estate, Franton Court, where she maintained an extensive library. The library itself manifested a combination of order and personal artistry, as it was organized not by size or subject, but by the color of the books’ spines. Hilla Rebay’s library is currently located within the Special Collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum Library, though arranged now according to contemporary library practices.
