"The Black Mamba gets it’s name from the unusual black color in its mouth rather than the normal olive to gray colored scales. This is a very long elapid that ranges throughout Central and South Africa. The Black Mamba can exceed 10 feet in length and is one of the fastest snakes in the world. Their venom is extremely potent and without treatment usually fatal within 7-10 hours. It consists mainly of neurotoxins and shuts your respiratory system down in short order. A typical bite is between 100-150 mg of venom, but they have been known to deliver up to 400 mg in a single bite.
