“#wingsforfreedom was created by me and Marco [Conti Sikic]. We travel a lot in Africa and we wanted to empower people, so Marco started drawing the wings and I took the pictures. The idea was to have people standing in front of the wings and for a few minutes, let them dream, because in those areas of the world, hope is the most important thing. For a lot of people, just clean water is not accessible. It wasn’t for me when I was a kid. In Mali, we have this war going on. It’s terrorists. It’s jihadists. When they arrived they started to force women to hide behind a veil and they forced people not to listen to music. As a female musician, it’s really difficult. There are some parts in the country where I wouldn’t go because my life would be in danger. For them, I shouldn’t be doing music. But I’m a musician.
