“I really wanted to see for myself what a submerged town looked like. And also, I wanted to see how nature had filled the void.” To do so, the photographer @therealandrewmoore traveled to Montserrat, a British-colonized island in the Lesser Antilles that lost half its population (and its capital, Plymouth) after a volcano erupted in the mid-1990s. Although half of the island is now part of the “exclusion zone,” #Montserrat remains home to a vibrant community. @therealandrewmoore documented Plymouth — where he photographed Government House, the former official residence of Montserrat’s governor — and nearby areas that were abandoned.
