A few years ago, Megumi opened her apartment on Airbnb and quickly realized “by making a home for others, we were making a better home for our family.” Before she became a host, she was a single mom with a demanding career, trying to provide for her 3 year old daughter, Akari. Hosting empowered her to spend more time at home.
Eventually, encouraged by the wonderful guests she’d hosted, she worked with a team of people to restore a 120-year-old house into a communal living space, whose doors are always open for traveling guests. Megumi says she now tells Akari that she "has many grandpas, grandmas, uncles, aunts, sisters and brothers that she can trust, regardless of their nationalities."
