THE CLEVELANDS She was a Halstonette! That was my first introduction to the legendary Pat Cleveland. It was in 1980 when I had the good fortune of seeing Pat walk in a Kansai Yamamoto show and a year later in Michaele Volblracht’s insane, “Illogical Circus” show. I vividly remember Pat’s unforgettable panache walking that red felted runway on an unprecedented evening in New York City that mixed fashion with show business. “Illogical Circus” was an inspirational and life changing experience for me and while Pat was a major name and face on the runway, this was the first time I was able to truly experience her incomparableness – her presence, energy, style, sense of humor and “walk.” Fast forwarding thirty-five years, during the beginning of the looks process for our Fall/Winter 2015 show, Katie suggested Anna Cleveland work with us in the studio. Everything about Anna continued to inspire. Her presence and posture helped evolve that collection and the show to a level I later could not have imagined achieving without her. She seamlessly personified my sketches, a character I envisioned in that Vreeland, “Garden of Hell.” Anna’s sophistication, striking beauty, fluidity of movement, and the regality of her features are all so lustrous. As I look back on it now, remembering Pat in Michaele Vollbracht’s, “Illogical Circus” and seeing her daughter, Anna, in our SS15 show at the Ziegfeld Theater draws many previously unrealized parallels for me. How poignant that show was in 1981 and what the Spring/Summer 2016 continues to represent to me personally. During the casting process for the campaign, as I began to connect the traces of my New York past with my New York present, I felt it was only natural to ask the entire Cleveland Family to be a part of the campaign. I’m thrilled to share this photograph of Fashion Royals, Noel, Anna and Pat by David Sims for our Spring/Summer 2016 ad campaign. @anna_vrc @patcleveland
