#Aaliyah was born in #Brooklyn on this date in 1979. She moved to #Detroit with her family at age five and at eleven opened for her aunt #GladysKnight in #LasVegas. She recorded three albums — all of which went double platinum — by the time of her tragic death in an airplane crash at the age of 21. Even as a teenager, #Aaliyah could sell a song about being a choosy lover like a pro, but her songs — written with #MissyElliott and produced by #Timbaland — could have sold themselves.
