In the years since the United States Federal Reserve cut interest rates, Indonesia overtook Malaysia as the world’s biggest producer of palm oil and emerged as a major regional supplier of other important raw materials. But with the Fed now raising interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade, prices of palm oil have already fallen. The value of the Indonesian rupiah has plummeted.
