#GoPro Featured Photographer: @robbiecrawford About the shot: With the HD4 came increased control over manual settings. My favorite advancement was long exposures, which combined with the increased manual controls opened up a whole new realm of creative possibilities. I absolutely loved this because the aspect of art I enjoy most is coming up with something you haven't seen before. Thanks to those advancements and incorporating a manual flash I was able to conceptualize and create this image of a long exposure watershot of what appears to be a translucent wave with the sunset's afterglow shining through. How I captured the shot: The way this shot was achieved was through a series of techniques. First was figuring out a way to keep the camera still during the exposure so the horizon lines and lights wouldn't blur, streak and show motion. This was achieved by attaching the #GoPro to a long pole and driving it deep into the sand of the ocean floor where I saw waves breaking most consistently. Once secure, I stood in waste deep water and triggered a couple test exposures I could view and make sure my exposure was on point. I found that a 5 second exposure was ideal (which was important so I had time to trigger the flash) with an EV Comp of -.5 to darken the image. Once I everything dialed I needed to trigger the exposure at just the right time for the wave to break in front of the camera during the exposure. Then during the exposure, I had to manually fire the flash at just the right time when the wave was perfect distance to the camera.
