So.... this happened! #wheninrome

I turned up at 9am to find thousands of chairs set up in front of the Vatican. Curious, I asked one of the guards what was going on..? He said the Pope was coming at midday! So with 3 hours still to go and yet to have breakfast, I figured saving a seat would be a good idea. At the back of the first section were two ladies - both didn't speak a word of English, and I didn't speak a word of Italian. So, using sign language, I worked on asking them if the seat was taken, then continued on to asking them if they could hold it while I went to go eat! As I left, I was sure my seat would be gone but an hour later when I returned, sure enough, my seat was still there and they even stopped a 75yr old lady from taking it! ? For the next 2 hours, we waited. When the Pope arrived, he did a full lap of the seating area which meant that he went straight past my seat, giving me a front row view! #rightplacerighttime
