Happy Birthday Run of #RunDMC! "Run (center) started working onstage at twelve, as a disc jockey behind Kurtis Blow. (Blow is managed by Run's brother, Russell Simmons, who also handles Run D.M.C. and Whodini.) He would visit D.M.C., another budding disc jockey with a sound system in his basement, to play tapes of late-Seventies rap shows at New York's Hotel Diplomat. Around the same time, Jam-Master Jay would set up his turntables and sound system in 191 Hollis Park, spinning and scratching records; Run and D.M.C. would rap with him until the police came. While Run was attending La Guardia Community College in Queens and D.M.C. was at St. John's University, they started writing rhymes together, and with Jam-Master Jay and Russel Simmons' help, they made 'It's Like That,' an immediate twelve-inch dance-club hit in 1983."
